Books references about dataviz

  • As discussed during the “Beyond pretty” conference, here are 2 books I recommend on dataviz:

    • Good Charts by Scott Berinato
A guide for better data visualization by the Harvard Business Review in-house dataviz expert.

    • Storytelling with Data by Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic
A step-by-step guide on creating and designing better charts and telling stories with them.

Both books go into details about what makes a good visualization (i.e. how to build one well and how to adapt it to your context.)
They also give tools on creating a dataviz from scratch (no programming though.)

For dataviz inspiration, you can also check the following websites:

    • eagereyes.org
Thoughtful content on data visualization and visual storytelling.

    • perceptualedge.com
Home of Stephen Few, author of several books about data visualization. The examples section contains interesting discussions.

    • vizwiz.com
Data visualization best practices, methods for improving existing work, and tips and tricks about Tableau software.

    • informationisbeautiful.net and visualisingdata.com (resources section)
Gold mine of examples of data visualizations. Go get inspired just by browsing those websites.
